GLOSSARY · DEVELOPMENT
What is a material change of use(MCU)?
A Queensland planning term for starting a new use of premises, or materially changing an existing one, which usually needs a development approval.
IN PRACTICE
In Queensland the MCU approval settles what a site can be used for and at what scale, which is usually the approval that sets the value of the land. Whether an application is code or impact assessable affects time, cost and the chance of objections, so it is worth understanding before a site is bought, not after.
